I’ve stayed at Y Loft twice, and while it’s more like a hostel than a hotel and certainly not five-star luxury, I was generally satisfied and would choose it again. The hardworking staff are efficient, friendly, and helpful across reception, housekeeping, security, and mechanical maintenance. Reception is open 24 hours. Basic room facilities are complete, with daily cleaning, towel changes, and weekly sheet changes. The main floor has self-service laundry, a small gym, and various recreation facilities. I heard the hostel is due for renovation, and look forward to seeing the refreshed look when I return next year. The A12 airport bus stops right outside and goes straight to the hostel, more convenient than the MTR. Y Loft is in the local residential area of “Chai Wan”, across from Chai Wan MTR station and connected by a pedestrian bridge. The station has bus, minibus, and taxi terminals below it. Three community shopping malls, an open market, a wet market, and Chai Wan Park are nearby. With several hills around it, Chai Wan also has well-equipped country parks and hiking trails, making it a good spot for hikers. Beaches including Big Wave Bay, Silver Bay, and Shek O are about a 10-minute drive away. Shek O also has barbecue areas, the Shek O Country Club, and an 18-hole golf course. Stanley, a well-known tourist spot, is about a 15-minute drive away, and I never miss visiting when I’m in Hong Kong. Good value for money, and I’d certainly stay here again.

The laundry service makes long stays convenient. Rooms on the 12th floor are better than those on the 14th, though the elevator waiting area on the 14th is awful in summer. I also wish the outlets were placed better.

We stayed one night, with checkout at 12pm, but housekeeping started knocking on every door at 9:30am, asking in Chinese whether rooms needed cleaning. They opened our door too. I’m not sure how anyone thinks that kind of service is acceptable. Having worked at a hotel before, I’d expect a simple departure and housekeeping list for stayovers instead of staff knocking on every door and opening them in the morning. I heard other rooms complaining too. There’s a large gap under the bathroom door. The room only had one power strip, far away from the bed, so we had to unplug several lamps and the air filter and move it over so my companion could charge her phone.

We were amazed by the standard of this New World managed government initiative for Youth in Hong Kong. At first we were a bit skeptical because of the budget price, even though the room design was inspiring and the property photos eye-catching. Receptionist Ms Tam Tam was friendly and reassuring, a rare gem in hospitality. The rooms are a bit tired after 10 years of service and need a major overhaul. Still, with a limited budget, the management team has maintained the property very well through daily upkeep refurbishment, keeping its Price Value Equation exceptional by Hong Kong standards. The location, convenient public transport, and easy access to local street food are real advantages. The housekeeping team is top shelf, dedicated, thorough, and responsive. I highly recommend this property to adventurers planning a long stay in HK who want to appreciate what value for money really means.

This hotel suits students and tourists on short stays, and it’s away from the tourist areas. The free breakfast is too small to meet the nutrient guideline: a cup of coffee, a very small muffin, and a small fruit. You have to eat in your room.
