Hotel Madera Hong Kong

The rooftop bar is an underrated gem, with great views, decent drinks, and a cozy feel. Dining choices are limited since there's just one restaurant. The rooms are thoughtfully designed and equipped for their size, and staff are prompt, helpful, and attentive. It's not as expansive or packed with features as a larger hotel, but for the size and budget it's a fantastic option. Shops, supermarkets, cafes, and MTR exits are only minutes away.

The staff were smiley and polite, and walking to Jordan B1 exit takes less than five minutes. There's a 7-11 right below, and free Netflix was a nice extra. For my girl's birthday, they kindly upgraded us to a higher floor room with a jacuzzi, which we were really grateful for. The jacuzzi feels great after a long day walking, so choose that room if it fits your budget. The hotel was clean and had good facilities, but there were a few odd things. They only provide water for one day. The shower head was loose and sprayed water out from behind too. The door handle was next to its hole, not sure whether that's the design or it just didn't fit properly. The basin was quite low, so I had to bend down a lot. Also, the toilet light combines two lights, and it's very bright at night if you leave it on. There's no door to shut and block the light.

There are plenty of quick food options nearby, though Temple Night Market and some places around there can be tourist traps. The hotel doesn't provide bottled water or a dispenser in the room, so you'll need to buy it. Within a five-minute walk, including across the street, there are 7-11, Watsons, Park nshop and Wellcome. No hotel laundry, but there's an outdoor laundromat next door, which was a first for me. Jordan metro station exit B1 is nearby. From HKG airport, you can take Citybus A22 or A22. The A22 is faster and drops you at the Starbucks around the corner. The High Speed Rail station is walkable if you don't have children, older people, or lots of luggage. Staff at the front desk did their jobs well and speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. We opted out of room cleaning, so I can't comment on that. Check-in requires a 500 HKD per day deposit, payable by credit card. There's reasonable room to move around luggage. The restroom has a bathtub and shampoo, body wash, conditioner, and hand wash. The TV has cable channels in at least Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and Japanese. A few problems: the window curtains, shower curtain, and carpet had stains and could use replacing. There was a noticeable unpleasant sewer smell in the restroom. At night, the fan or AC was loud, and the foyer light in our room switched itself on and off every night.

The staff are very friendly, and the location is excellent. The gym is clean and has enough space for two people, though I'd like towels there and newer equipment. Its hours, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., are a bit short, so extending them would help.
