Downtown Oasis

There's a Spar and an ATM to the right, and a cosmetics shop to the left. The city center location is great, and the staff speak English. The large, comfortable room has panoramic windows. Bus 100E from the airport stops 250 meters from the apartments.

The rooms match what was advertised, and having a fan is a big help when Budapest gets hot. It's a good hostel in a handy part of Budapest, with the synagogue nearby and a Spar right next door. A decent place to stay.

The staff were very polite, and the place was clean, with a store just outside and everything in central Budapest close by. It's inexpensive, simple and comfortable, though the beds creak, and there are a lot of keys and locks to deal with. I'd recommend it.

The room itself was fairly spacious and quiet, but the squeaky floor made any movement noisy, and there were lots of ants, especially in the bathroom. After checkout there was nowhere to leave luggage or use a toilet, so the value for money was poor. The arrival and payment experience was awful. I got there before 11 PM but waited nearly an hour outside at night in an unfamiliar city. There was apparently no reception, just someone coming and going. When I was finally greeted, I was told that because I was checking in after 11, I owed an extra 10 euros. That felt completely unfair since I had arrived earlier and nobody was there. When I tried to show I was there before 11, someone grabbed my hand and pulled me, saying the receptionist would prove I was wrong. It was appalling, and I nearly called the police. They apparently didn't have my correct phone number or email from Agoda, so nobody contacted me before arrival to ask when I was coming. I agreed to pay the 10 euros and offered to pay that night, but they said to do it the next day. I got up and waited for the receptionist, but nobody showed, so I headed into the city. Then the receptionist called angrily, saying they were waiting for payment. Luckily I wasn't far away, so I came back. I paid cash for the room and the 10 euros for late check-in, but got only one receipt with the total. When I asked for an itemized receipt, I was rudely told no. I had to argue again before I finally got the proper receipt. I was extremely upset by the way I was treated.
