The villa was dusty, and the next day we had to specifically ask housekeeping to mop the whole place. There were ants all over the master bedroom and its toilet. The water pressure was so low that we had to take turns showering in the two-bedroom villa, or we’d only get a trickle. With no one using water, the bathtub took two hours to fill. Housekeeping also wasn’t daily, though I’m sure it was part of the package. The air-conditioning in the living room was why we booked this villa, but it was weak during the day and only cooled the area at night before it warmed up again. The villa felt isolated, with no mini marts nearby. The master bedroom is right next to the main road, so traffic will wake light sleepers. We couldn’t find contact details on booking.com, just a US number that went unanswered. We left a message saying our flight was early and we’d arrive at 11am local time, but were left outside for 1.5hrs. Luckily, the neighbours heard us and contacted the housekeeping manager. She had the wrong number for us from booking.com, and we had our young son with us. The photos posted here are from YEARS ago. I have to say this could be the worst villa I’ve stayed in during my many visits to Bali.

The easy road access to Ubud and Sanur is a plus, and it’s near Waterbom and Trans Studio Bali Mall. But the villa looks very old and tired, and its aircon, electrical wiring, water pressure, and toilet drainage all need investment. The location is a bit far from shopping streets and places to eat, though there are a few good warung and a convenient stall about 1km away. It’s near a road, so there’s traffic noise and light at night in the Mstr bedroom. Being near the river also means lots of insects and mozzies.

The villa is great value, though I think we’d have been better off on the other side of the river since you need to call a cab to get anywhere. We loved the place, but it isn’t in the middle of everything. I’m glad breakfast was included because there are no nearby places to eat. Restaurants and shops are a 20 minute walk away, with no footpath, and I wouldn’t walk there at night. Bikes use the road like a racetrack, so it feels dangerous. It’s very noisy, though after a few days you get used to the traffic.

We loved the pool, and having breakfast in the cabana was great. The villa was beautiful, spotless, and very private and quiet. It had lovely inclusions, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, always keen to make sure we were comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.

This Villa took my breath away as soon as I arrived. Such a lovely setting and fresh air. I don’t need the beach to get a tan, the beach vibe is already here ;) Glad I found Holl Villa!
