The staff were friendly, and the room was clean, with a comfortable bed, decent toilet, air conditioning, TV, and drinking water. Clean bath towels were supplied, but there was no soap or shampoo. The receptionist said that was normal, though I’d never stayed somewhere without them before. It’s a boarding house and hotel, with the men’s boarding rooms at the back and the cheapest rooms there. The rooms have no windows. White polycarbonate covers the upper walls to keep them dark, but outside noise carries in loudly. The stairs between floors are also quite high, about the height of one ceramic tile. There’s a shop downstairs for daily necessities, plus a food stall. The area is a large residential neighborhood with lots of boarding houses. Still, it’s a decent place, especially when I’m having cancer and my pockets are empty.

After a long day of sightseeing, I slept well. The AC cooled the room nicely, and the in-room amenities were great. The room was also surprisingly spacious compared with other budget hotels. I was glad to find such a cozy place for a few days in Jogja, not far from UGM. When I got hungry, I could order food that really suited my taste. The staff were friendly and ready to help, so I was very happy with my stay.

The room itself was okay: a big, comfortable bed, a smart door, and a water heater that worked well. The AC took a while to get going but was fine after that. There were no windows, and the frosted glass high on the walls let hallway light into the room at night, so it felt like sleeping with the lights on. The early check-in turned into a frustrating mess. The night before, I WhatsApped the contact listed on Google Maps to ask about checking in early. They said yes and told me to order it through RedDoorz, so I paid for it. At noon the next day, when I said I was there to check in, the receptionist looked annoyed and told me check-in started at 2. I explained that I’d already paid for early check-in and showed the app. He challenged me, saying no one had opened it yet and that there had been no WhatsApp contact available the night before. He then said early check-in required another 100,000 IDR, even though the room had cost only 130,000 IDR the night before. He also said the room wasn’t clean yet, and that the latest arrival time was 1 o’clock, even though it was already noon and that was the checkout limit. There was no apology. The receptionist was defiant and rude, even though I’d just traveled and felt he was the one at fault. I ended up checking in at 2 and got no refund for the early check-in fee. I couldn’t be bothered arguing with him. The night staff turned out to be different and friendlier. The daytime receptionist had a beard, but his manners were absolutely zero. If you’re the owner, don’t act like a brawler. Being polite to customers is basic hospitality. If he’s an employee, maybe someone could train him to be more polite. Even if no room was ready for early check-in, they could have WhatsApped me first or at least apologized when I arrived. It was cheap, so I paid without staying. One more downside: basement parking is far away, and there’s no direct way inside from there. You have to pass the receptionist, which is annoying when you don’t want to see his rude face. They also hold guests’ ID cards during the stay. Even hotels costing 300,000 and up don’t do that. The roads nearby are steep, and the speed bumps are big, just FYI. I’m not coming back, even though the rooms are okay. Just seeing the receptionist’s face makes me want to sit down because I’m so annoyed.

The room at C9 Kaliurang Inn was spacious enough for three people, clean, and fairly fragrant. There’s also a food stall where you can order something when hungry instead of going out to buy food. I gave it 3 stars because of an employee I encountered around 2:30 in the afternoon when I was checking in. He was a bit older and wearing a shirt. I caught a whiff of body odor and noticed what looked like dirt stains on the collar. I’d suggest the owner pay more attention to employees’ cleanliness and neatness.

The rooms are spacious and nice, and the AC gets cold. I’d really recommend them. Could I get the WhatsApp number for the boarding house behind?
