Alam Indah Ubud

I first stayed at Alam Indah in early January 2024, so this report is about two years late. Better late than never, LOL. It was my fourth visit to one of the Alam Indah hotels in twenty years, and my first time at Alam Indah itself. I had a fantastic four-night stay, just like on my earlier visits. The place still has its authentic Balinese character, which I was relieved and delighted to find even as Ubud has grown more touristy. The grounds are peaceful and beautifully kept, and I was welcomed with a lovely bouquet of flowers when I arrived. My reservation with Ayu and the rest of the stay, right through checkout, went smoothly. Breakfast was excellent each morning, and I especially remember the campur cheri at the family restaurant, Laka Leke, a few minutes away. I’m grateful to all the staff. They treat each other like family and gave me that same warmth and care.

Tucked into peaceful jungle, Alam Indah has a gorgeous pool and the kindest staff. They helped with every request we had. Such a special stay, thank you!

We had a marvellous week here. The rooms are very spacious and sit among a beautiful garden, and the pool is lovely, though there are quite a few steps to get down to it. Breakfast was good, with complimentary afternoon tea too, and the staff were friendly. The property is south of Monkey Forest in a quiet area with plenty of restaurants and cafes. It's an easy walk into Ubud along a bike and walking track, or you can take the hotel shuttle, though there’s a lot of traffic. My only reason for taking off a star was that our room had no fridge. We probably could have asked for one.

We ended up spending more time at Alam Indah than out exploring Ubud because it was such a pleasure to be there. The garden is breathtaking, especially in the morning with the scent of incense from the offerings. The pool and the path down to it were perfect, and there are two other exit gates if you’d rather leave without passing guests at the entrance. The whole stay felt like a great mix of comfortable rooms, atmosphere, and thoughtful service. The team welcomed us with fresh juice at check-in, were caring without hovering, and always remembered our names. Our room had a colonial feel, open to nature but with glass panels to keep in the air conditioning and likely keep little animals out. The furniture is older, which adds to its charm. Breakfast, afternoon tea, and lunch were all delicious. It was the best hotel we’ve stayed at in Bali, and we’ll definitely come back.
