Ashoka Tree Resort at Tanggayuda, Ubud

The rooms are spacious and the private pool villa is good value. It's a long way inside the city, with not much to explore nearby. Breakfast is a la carte, with limited choice, but it was good. Dinner was a bad experience: the burger they had on offer was bland and had no sauce, just a boiled potato with vegetables. The complimentary water bottle was very small. They could improve the food.

The hotel is clean and beautiful, but the atmosphere felt dull, mostly because there were only Indian couples there. There wasn't any storage space for clothes, and the rooms have no windows, which could make some people feel shut in. If this hotel is on your trip itinerary, I'd change it to somewhere else. The stay could be better.

We only stayed one night last October, and it didn't feel worth the price. At 4 PM our room still wasn't ready, the floor was damp, and the glasses were dirty. The staff member handling our luggage was rough and damaged our suitcase. The bed was uncomfortable and kept making noise. We complained twice, but nobody followed up. Breakfast was very basic, served a la carte and not warm. At checkout they said everything in the room was fine, but later I realized I'd left my charger behind and they hadn't told us. The response was extremely slow, and I had to message them on WhatsApp again to ask about my things. I hope the service improves.

We were on our honeymoon and had booked a room with a private pool, so we were excited. From arrival it went badly: nobody came to welcome us or take our luggage, and our driver had to ask reception to send someone. We didn't find Indian food beyond chicken tikka masala and some fried rice. I'd give their Indian food 0 out of 10, and we ended up eating only chips we'd bought from a local shop. First they put us in a large room with a 1-ton AC that didn't work. We waited half an hour for someone to check it, and after my husband called again, he asked them to repair it or move us. Another 45 minutes passed before they changed our room. With no staff to help, we had to move our luggage ourselves. Our package included pool breakfast, but they didn't offer it, and the bed wasn't decorated as we'd expected. When we finally tried to relax in the pool, the chlorine was so strong we got out after one dip. The worst experience, they ruined our honeymoon.
