Askara Guest House - Hostel

The place isn't bad, and it's cheap with a good breakfast, but it seems to be going downhill. The Google photos are misleading. In room 15, I couldn't use the AC for two nights because the mold smell was so bad. Luckily the nights were cool enough that I could just open the window. Some people were loud after curfew.

I spent seven nights here, and the photos on both booking and airbnb were misleading. One pool looked horrible, green and nasty. The rooms weren't clean, and the worst problem was the smell: the bathrooms had a strong sewage odor that spread through the whole room. The "host family" live there, which could be fine, but they paid almost no attention to guests. They played loud music on speakers while I was working in my room. They were shaving in the shared areas and leaving the mess behind, which I found disgusting. One night we saw a rat run into the guest areas. I told the host, but he just smiled and did nothing. Breakfast was mediocre and prepared in unhygienic conditions. I wouldn't recommend this place.

The rooms were fine and inexpensive, but the place had no atmosphere. They call themselves a hostel, yet this is really a guest house. The shower was quite cold and the pool was dirty. Don't come expecting a hostel experience.

If you're staying in a shared room, there are more than 10 beds in the mixed dorm, and each bed has curtains. The room has aircon. The toilet is inside but has its own door, so there was no bad smell. Breakfast was simple and good. The place is over 20 minutes on foot from the center, or you can rent a scooter. The staff didn't seem professional and need to improve their management and behavior. They were more interested in their phones than keeping the hostel clean. Cleaning needs work too, especially in the kitchen and pool area. The kitchen was disgusting.
