Pesantian Villa & Warung

We were in the area because my child was at Empathy School winter camp, and at first the location seemed inconvenient. Finding this restaurant changed that. After three years living in Indonesia and trying plenty of famous restaurants, I can honestly say this one is much better than the popular, well-known places. The food is outstanding and the chef is amazing. I've traveled around Bali, including Canggu, Kuta, Sanur, and Uluwatu, and the people here have been the kindest and most welcoming by far. Finishing my last trip before going back to my home country with such delicious food and warm hospitality made it unforgettable. Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The food at Pesantian Warung is top-notch, and you can enjoy it in a relaxed, welcoming setting up among the trees, with rice padis across the road. Family, friends, and staff create a gentle atmosphere that feels so typical of Bali. Their juices are delicious alongside the lovely menu. If you bring wine, they'll pour it, and there's Bintang in the fridge for something stronger. We first took a cooking class, which was so good that we asked to bring some prepared dishes home to finish in our villa. Chef Santika made them personally: chicken satay ready to grill, nasi goreng with fresh eggs to fry at home when serving, and babi kecap, braised pork with sweet dark soy, ginger, and shallots. We chatted with a family staying in the Villa, who said they were having the best time of their lives. From our spot overlooking the restaurant, the Villa looked amazing, with a beautiful pool and spacious living area. We're tempted to stay next time, but we don't drive and you'd need transport. GRAB rideshare was only about $8AUD for the return trip, worked well, and was cheap. If warungs feel mysterious to you, trust this one for a perfect Balinese meal.

The chef is incredible, and the staff are so sweet. I’ve had some of the best food in Bali here. We’re lucky to live nearby, so we’ll be back soon. AMAZING restaurant!

The restaurant food was the highlight for me, easily the best I ate in my five weeks in Bali. I’d especially recommend the cooking class with the chef, who is also the hotel manager. His enthusiasm for cooking and for explaining local food and culture made it such a great experience. The rooms feel luxurious, the pool was clean and pleasant, and you can rent a scooter. It’s a little outside central Ubud, which makes it a good spot for a few quiet days.
