The Village Guest House

The property was quiet even though it’s by the roadside, and the room was clean. Breakfast was hearty too. I stayed five nights and would definitely come back. Scooter rental is right next door, and laundry is a one-minute walk away. I totally recommend it for a stay in Ubud.

The location worked really well for us, about a 9-10 minute walk to the center, so we were away from Ubud’s noise and traffic. The hosts took great care of us, including arranging transport to our activities, and they can set up day trips or other activities at a very good price. Our rooms were comfortable, clean, and well equipped, and there’s a pool for a quick dip. Breakfast was included and delicious. We loved staying here and wished we could have stayed longer.

I booked three rooms with friends through booking.com on 18th July. Because of transport problems between Surabaya and Bali, following the accident two weeks earlier that everyone knows about, we couldn’t make it. I asked the hotel for a full or partial refund. My local tour guide called to explain, but the management and owner kept passing the decision between each other. They eventually said they would review the cancellation, so we submitted the request on booking.com. After that, the hotel ignored our messages. We called booking.com more than three times, and they also tried to contact the hotel, but there was no reply or update. It was irresponsible and rude to leave customers without an answer. Even if the answer was no, we deserved an explanation and confirmation. There are plenty of better hotels to choose from. I don’t recommend this one.

What made The Village Guest House stand out was the staff. They were welcoming, kind, and attentive throughout. The location is close to everything while still being in a quiet area, so it’s a lovely place to relax and feel at home in Ubud. Highly recommended.
