Moxy Cork

We had a brilliant one-night stay and would come back without hesitation. The rooms and the rest of the hotel were spotless, and the staff were faultless, from letting us check in early to keeping our bags after checkout. The bar was clean and the beers were well kept. We ate elsewhere, so I can’t comment on the food. The rooms are on the small side but work well. There are only two little reading lights, so the bed area could use better lighting. I’d say this place suits a short visit with light luggage. If you like stout, there are loads of great pubs with their own breweries nearby, and I think their beers are much better than the main three stouts. Grab a leaflet and try the heritage pub tour for good music and genuinely friendly locals.

The staff were the standout for us. Every person we met went out of their way to make us, an American couple, feel at home. The bartenders gave us useful ideas for New Year’s Eve and even made us iced teas. We didn’t feel any pressure to tip, since it wasn’t expected, but we asked them to add a tip option to the card readers so we could show our appreciation. Breakfast was average, about what I’ve come to expect from Marriott branded food. I wish I’d looked more closely at the rooms before booking. They’re mainly set up for singles or couples with little luggage, or for a quick work or overnight stay. Here’s a tip that would’ve saved us some hassle: Moxy connects to the Residence Inn along the same hallways on each floor except the 6th. The Residence Inn rooms are much bigger and have kitchenettes. You can also use the free laundry rooms, with detergent and dryer sheets available at the front desk. At some times of year, the prices are quite similar. We regret choosing Moxy at first, because the Residence Inn amenities suited us better. We had a lovely long weekend in Cork, and as a Marriott member I was very pleased with this hotel. The service was great, the location was amazing, and the hotel itself was lovely. Our room was really nice, too. The only thing I’d add is a mini fridge. I enjoyed the stay and would definitely come back.

It’s a friendly, funky hotel in a brilliant central location, and the staff were lovely and helpful. But the rooms feel very bare. There’s hardly any furniture, and the tiny tables made things fall off. The fold-down desk was slanted and nearly sent a cup sliding to the floor. The breakfast wasn’t nice at all if you wanted hot food. The pastries were fine, but the hot options were disgusting, especially for the price of the rooms. I wouldn’t choose this place for a family trip with children, though we were just a couple. I’d rate it 4/5: a nice hotel that needs more practical furniture and better food.
