We paid over 350 euros for two nights, far too much for this standard of accommodation. I've travelled regularly all over the world, and the Shamrock inn is one of the most overpriced places I've stayed. We booked through Travago, where it was advertised as a guest house, but arrived to find hostel accommodation. I wouldn't recommend it to future tourists unless they're backpackers looking for basic, very expensive lodging. The room was basic, at the top of three flights of very steep, narrow stairs, with no lift. There was no tea or coffee setup in the room, and drinks weren't allowed in the bedrooms, even though the website showed in-room tea and coffee facilities. The freestanding wardrobe was missing its front legs and leaned forward precariously, making its doors very hard to open. There was lots of dust on the door surrounds and wardrobe top. People came and went noisily all night, banging doors. In my opinion, the website is misleading and the advertising false.

Worst experience of my life. I called at the last minute for a room because I had surgery the next morning and the protests were on. I told them I had a major operation, so you'd expect the place to be clean. It wasn't. I'll attach photos of what I walked into. The building smelled horrific, and two junkies greeted me. There was alcohol all over the room. They offered another room, but I'd rather have slept on the street. It was midnight, so why hadn't the room been done hours earlier? Disgusting 🤢 Nothing like what they show online.

The bathroom was shared by four rooms, and there was no tea or coffee, hairdryer, or coat hangers. When we asked about hangers, staff didn’t seem to know what they were. The wall lights hung loose, with their switch behind the headboard, so we had to pull the bed forward to use them. The TV’s extension lead was balanced precariously on an upside-down bin, and the broken blinds wouldn’t work. The uneven floors sent anything on wheels rolling toward the door. There was rotten food stinking up the fridge in the “kitchen,” and an alarm at a nearby building went off for almost 36 hours. We were a group of men away for the craic and managed to laugh it off, but this place wasn’t even cheap and I wouldn’t recommend it. In my opinion, it’s unsafe and a health hazard, and should be looked at by a government body. I have lots of photos but couldn’t post them for some reason. Nothing nice to say about the place.

We had to spend more than two hours on the phone with Booking.com, trying to find somewhere at the last minute after arriving to discover our reservation had been canceled. We’d booked a month ahead, the full charge was still on our account, and there’d been no call, email, or other warning. The front desk woman just stood staring at us, with almost no help offered. The property seems badly understaffed and reliant on outdated systems, which clearly contributed to the mistake. We were left to handle the fallout ourselves. Save yourself the stress and choose somewhere better run in the area.

There’s hardly room to sit, with no chair, just a backless stool, and the bed wobbles so much you can’t sit on it without worrying it’ll give way. The room was cramped, noisy from the street, and had no storage. The bathroom had no shelves or mat, and for two people there was only one large towel. A lower price can mean a minimalist hotel, but it still needs to be clean and in order, with the basics for hosting guests. That wasn’t the case here.
