There was no one on duty when we got back at midnight, and we found a woman asleep in the room we’d booked. By then my name had been erased from the book and hers was written beside room 4. We had to find a different place to stay in Dublin at around 12:30am on a Friday night. I don’t understand why they put one woman in a room with three beds when a room with a single twin bed was still available. I’d made the reservation weeks earlier for Friday night. We’d arrived in Dublin a day early and booked Thursday night too. The Thursday attendant was wonderful, helpful and informative, and got my mom and me a room with a Queen bed. We were meant to move to a twin room on Friday. On Friday morning, the woman on duty gave us the key to the new room. I could see my name in the reservation book for room 4 that night. Since they were still cleaning, we left our luggage in the car. I would not recommend a place that thinks it can simply erase a reservation.

A clean, comfortable bed and breakfast with a really good morning meal. They also provide some free toiletries and books to read. It’s a bit far from the city centre, so I’d suggest it if you’re travelling by car.

The breakfast was wonderful, with all sorts of things to eat: eggs, lots of fruit, different breads and plenty of drinks. They cooked eggs however you wanted, whether hard-boiled, soft-boiled, medium or fried with bacon, and even made fresh porridge. The staff were very friendly. It’s a small place, but sweet, with a cute view of the garden. A really lovely, cool lodge!

I paid a deposit and made weekend plans after booking this b&b. Then, two days before my stay, they cancelled because they’d overbooked several rooms. That says a lot about the management. When I called, they were dismissive and barely apologetic. I wouldn’t book with Donneybrook Lodge again.

A quiet, clean and welcoming little hidden gem just outside town. If you’d rather not stay in the big city, I’d happily consider the donnybrook lodge. Can’t recommend it enough.
