The breakfast was good, with plenty to pick from. Instead of hot food, they served ham and cheese platters, which was a nice touch. We used some leftover bread and platter items to make a cheese sandwich, and the woman kindly wrapped it for us so we could take it along rather than see it thrown away. It’s a spotless B&B in a lovely house, with very comfortable beds and free parking close to the centre of Sligo town. There weren’t many chairs in our room, but just outside was a window seat with a lamp, perfect for curling up with my book. The host was very nice and let us leave our luggage before check-in. I’d recommend it for couples, solo travellers, or a couple with young children. It’s clean and comfortable with nice decor, though a little outdated.

The only thing we liked was that the beds were comfortable. The property is very outdated, and both rooms were filthy. There was mould on the windows, and the water bottle left for us looked rusty and as though it had been refilled many times. In the bathroom, the toilet brush was broken, there was grime around the plugs, and the sink was falling apart. Breakfast might have been nice if it had been hot and fresh. I don’t understand how bookit.com gave it four stars. I complained to bookit and got a partial refund, but the owners were rude and dismissive.

We paid for three nights but left after two because of the conditions, and got no refund. I told the owner, who still wanted us out by a particular time even though the room was paid for. The bedroom was too small for two, there was heavy dust on the wardrobe, and mould around the window where the roller blind had fallen down. The shower and loo roll basket were mouldy, and the toilet brush was disgusting. Breakfast was cold porridge and a cold fried breakfast, with sour milk. The girl working there tried to give us a bit of breakfast, but the owner shouted at her that breakfast ended at 9.30. We only had cold coffee and croissants, so I don’t see the harm. There was no need to shout at a woman who was trying her best, especially where everyone could hear. The owner had told us the place was closed that night, so why rush us out when we had already paid? We lost out, not you. Avoid this outdated place. It needs a full refurbishment and someone who doesn’t shout at staff. Never again.

The building is Georgian, with wobbly floorboards, and things like the bathrooms, TVs, and curtains all seem a bit thrown together. The walls and windows are paper thin. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, breakfast was decent, and the WiFi was good, though its signal dropped out now and then. There was no shampoo or shower gel in the bathroom. About 3.5 stars for me, decent but not amazing.

There was a lovely garden view from the room, which was generally clean. It came with everything needed: hairdryer, towels, shampoo, two lamps, bin, ensuite bathroom, wardrobe, hand sanitizer, TV, chair, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, and a few biscuits. The tea room for breakfast is lovely too, and the owner is a lovely elderly Irish woman. The only thing that would make it perfect is a slightly prettier duvet.
