Penta Hotel

The staff were understanding and refunded me in full, which I really appreciated. I had a bad night in room seven because the back rooms overlook the hotel generator and smelled strongly of diesel. I switched hotels for the rest of my stay. The place was clean and in a great location, and the staff were lovely, but it can’t be safe to breathe diesel fumes all night.

I had a sea view room, so I can’t speak to the rooms at the back. The bed was good and the shower was great. All in all, a good bed and breakfast, and a good place to get your head down.

Room 7, on the second floor at the rear, had a constant diesel smell from the boiler flue. I’m not sure whether the other rear rooms have the same issue, but the front rooms are probably fine. The hotel itself is great value, and breakfast suited us perfectly: tea or coffee, a few cereals, juice, toast, butter, and jam. I’d use it again in another room, or hopefully once they’ve sorted the problem.

You can walk across the road to the beach, with plenty of restaurants nearby, and the bus and horse tram both run along the route. My room had a great view over Douglas bay, the harbour, and the beach. It was quiet, with no noise from other rooms, and the bed was comfortable. The room and en-suite bathroom were very large and nicely decorated. Everything was very clean, the staff were nice, and there was free tea and coffee with a kettle. A great budget hotel.
