Pokhrel Lodge

The staff and owner were really good and helpful. I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kalimpong.

The balcony looks out over the market, and the room is spacious with a neat, clean bathroom and a wardrobe for clothes. The staff were humble and cooperative, and the owner was very kind. We stayed for three days and found it worthwhile. The TV wasn’t working, and with no lift it could be difficult for elderly people. Still, we had a good experience overall.

Before we arrived, communication with Pokhrel lodge was very good, and the staff were kind and helpful. It’s right in the center of town, though that also means it’s noisy. The floors and bathroom were reasonably clean, but the mattress, sheets, blankets, pillows, and pillowcases were disgusting and heavily stained. I’ve rarely seen pillows and mattresses that brown-black. Paint was peeling from most walls, and some had simply been painted over despite mold. After one night we moved elsewhere, where we found better value for the same price just five minutes away.

The staff were very polite and helpful, and the location is right at the bus stand. The place is on the third floor with no lift, so it may suit solo travelers. The rooms need proper maintenance: the bathroom window pane was broken, the walls were damp, and there was no ceiling fan. The rug and pillow covers weren’t clean, and the washbasin faucet didn’t give hot water.
