Getting around Mahaballipuram was easy from this cottage, since it’s close to both the sea and the Seashore Temple. We had a fun, happy stay. The staff were friendly and really good, and the rooms were well maintained.
The rooms feel old-fashioned, almost like they’re from the ’90s, but at ₹700 a night you get what you pay for. It’s very close to the attractions. Check the room by calling before you book online.
It was peaceful with little road noise, since the property sits a bit away from the main road, and the beach is very close. The staff were approachable. Room quality seems to vary, though most rooms are spacious. Mine felt more like a cave, yet cost 900 rs for one night. The pillows smelled so bad I felt like vomiting, so I slept without them, and the mattress was very cheap quality. There was no faucet in my toilet; while checking out, I saw another room with a better one.
We had a happy weekend with the family, and the property wasn’t expensive. The water wasn’t salty, even though I expected it might be because the place is near the beach. The room was very nice, and the location is close to the beach. Service was good, and the staff and host Karthii were very helpful.
I had a really bad stay and expected more after paying a thousand bucks. The rooms looked ancient, and the pool wasn’t working, even though I called before booking and was told it was. I’d visited a few months earlier when it was also out of order, so I checked first. At check-in they offered a very smelly room at my booked rate, then asked for another 1000 bucks for a slightly better AC room. I refused. I took a different non AC room instead, but had to pay another 200 bucks in cash. I had to ask for every single thing: soap, towel, bedsheet, floor mat, and water. They understood English, so communication itself wasn’t difficult, but they seemed very adamant that they didn’t care. The old CRT TV ran for 20 seconds, then shut off until it warmed up for around 5 minutes, so I kept turning it on again. At 12 the next day, they cut the cable and the screen went blank, a rude way to signal checkout. The western toilet had no jet or other way to clean up, so I had to use water from a bucket with a mug. There was no hot water either, and I didn’t bathe.
