HERITAGE HOLDIAY HOME, FINGER POST, OOTY We found this quiet, safe place tucked among homes away from the city. Mr.Viji was a polite and very helpful attender. There was ample parking for each room inside the locked grounds, which felt secure. The building and rooms are old, so don’t expect modern facilities. Our room was neat, with a cot, TV, cupboard, and teapoy, but the bed was quite small for a couple. The bathroom was clean. A towel and soap were supplied, but bring your own toothpaste and toothbrush. There’s no lift, so luggage has to be carried up the stairs to the first floor. Mr.Viji helped us with ours. Hot water is controlled by the attender using a common geyser, and only one tap gets hot water, so you have to ask him to turn it on. The basin and toilet hose water stayed freezing cold. There were no heaters or radiators, and the single blanket for a double bed wasn’t enough. In peak winter, you’d need extra blankets and warm clothes. There are no shops or restaurants nearby, and the market is too far to reach on foot, so a private vehicle is needed. The attender can arrange an auto, but it costs 200rs each way to the market. There’s no room service either. He can make hot water to drink, but for milk, tea, or coffee you have to go to the market. With kids, babies, or older adults, eat before coming back and keep enough food on hand for the night. In peak winter most shops shut around 9 PM, and nothing will be available. It was a decent stay, though you need to be prepared for some compromises. If you need food service, a room heater, or hot water from every tap, this isn’t a good fit. Otherwise, it’s fine.
