Cloud Social

For three days we couldn't sleep or breathe properly because of the smell from the filthy toilets and washrooms. Even after several buckets of water, the stink remained. We were seven families on an Assam Meghalaya Tour and had booked seven rooms two months in advance. We'd repeatedly asked our agency to change the hotel, but eventually agreed after a conference call with management and assurances from Holiday Mechanic. When we arrived around 4 pm on December 25th, our rooms hadn't been cleaned, the toilets stank, and the sheets were dirty. We had to ask for every basic thing and waited four hours, until 8 pm, to get the amenities. There was no regular hot water, even in winter in Shillong. They only provided lukewarm water, and after one person bathed it stopped completely. We were in a hurry to go sightseeing and to the temple, so our group, including children, had to bathe in cold water. We later learned the tank was too small, so the hot water ran out within a few minutes and only a few people could bathe. They also charged extra for a room heater, even though it seemed like a basic need in that cold weather. The hotel had very few staff. The person cleaning the washrooms also cleaned glasses and plates at breakfast and dinner with dirty napkins, cut vegetables, and served food. Food quality was poor: the upma was like concrete mix, just hot water, cooked peas and salt mixed into rawa / sooji, with no onion, tomato, or tadka and no taste. The idly was half boiled. With no choice, we had to eat it. Rats and cockroaches seemed to be permanent guests in every room. There were other problems too. The hotel is on the second floor with no lift, and the bathroom is slightly raised above the bedroom, so you need to step carefully. The electrical setup was messy, and I personally saw an MCB burn. Someone at the hotel claimed they had 40 staff but said most were on leave for Christmas. There was no standard or quality, and guests are fooled. It felt like a Rs 1,000/- hotel in another city, not a four star place. We specifically asked for a 4* category hotel, and Cloud Social and Holiday Mechanic both failed to meet that expectation. My sincere advice is to avoid booking with this combination. Cloud Social isn't even an ordinary standard hotel, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful vacation.

We prepaid for the dinner buffet, but they didn't set one up. Instead, they told us we had to eat whatever they chose to provide, and we had no say. We were there for two days as a family and had a terrible experience. The staff were very rude, and nothing was offered by the chef. This stay was a nightmare. Get clear information before booking. I wouldn't recommend staying or eating here.

The water from the tap was dirty and dark brown, and there was no hot water in the washroom. The rooms didn't look like the photos at all, they were dirty and unhygienic. Worst hotel I've stayed in. If you're reading this, don't book it and spare yourself the mental stress.

A rare find in Shillong, a pure vegetarian restaurant. Every dish was delicious. A gem in Police Bazar, highly recommend visiting.
