Sp Highway Inn by OYO Rooms

The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, and the AC didn’t work even though they advertise AC rooms. When we arrived, nobody was at reception. After check-in, the man there insisted we pay immediately and only in cash, which makes the online payment option through OYO pointless. The bed and pillows were stiff as rocks. Very bad service. I’d give the hotel minus five stars if I could.

We ended up here because other hotels in Vellore were full during a major local event, and for the price it was a decent deal. The rooms are basic, with large beds, a TV and a bath, and you shouldn’t expect other amenities at this rate. The place feels like an old-style lodge that’s been renovated to a more modern standard, so OYO calling it a hotel was the letdown. What made the stay better was the all-rounder manager, Mr. Bala. He’s a real sweetheart, helpful and service-minded in a way you don’t often find even in many five-star hotels.

The AC needs at least an hour to cool the room in the summer heat. There aren’t any restaurants or decent food places nearby, though the staff will buy you whatever you want if you pay them. Still, it’s a good place to stay in Vellore on a reasonable budget, and the staff are courteous.

The lodge staff were polite and helpful, and the room had plenty of space, though it lacked any aesthetic appeal. Getting there was a hassle: the hotel is about 12 km from Katpadi railway station. When I called OYO customer care and reception to ask how to reach it from the station, they either didn’t answer or told me to call another number without giving me that number.
