City Comfort Apartments

The apartment had all the usual things you’d have at home, including a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, cooker, and microwave. There’s also an information folder with what you need to know during your stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I’d recommend it. It’s in the city centre, 100 metres from the local bus station, with a convenience store opposite.

Apartment 401, the two-bedroom one, worked really well for me, my husband, and our teenage son. It was spacious, with comfortable beds, linen provided, and big bedroom windows overlooking the mountains. There was also a little balcony with its own windows, and we could see the church from it. The location is perfect, at the end of the best part of Laugavegur for tourists, surrounded by restaurants, cafes, bars, and gift shops. A 24/7 grocery shop right opposite was really useful. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, oven, microwave, cutlery, crockery, and cookware. It had tea, sugar, coffee, condiments, herbs, and spices too, handy when you’re staying a week and don’t want to buy all that. Dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid, cloths, and tea towels were supplied. Another metal tray for the oven might have helped, but otherwise it was very good. The bathroom was a good size, with a walk-in shower that worked, though it wasn’t easy to control. There was a washing machine and tumble drier, with washing pods provided, as well as towels, a bath mat, and toilet paper. One small downside was that the kitchen and bathroom plugs smelled really bad and could have used a bit of bleach. I hadn’t been told that road works had closed the street directly outside. I tried to park there on arrival, then drove around the corner into a bus-only area, to the annoyance of bus drivers who beeped at me quite a lot. Apparently the road is due to become pedestrian-only. Luckily, we used the free on-road parking just down the road, off Snorrabraut, that we’d been told about. It was only a couple of minutes’ walk away.

There was no staff at the apartment, and I never received an entrance code. I didn’t even know which room was mine, so I couldn’t get in. I stood out in the cold thinking I might have to sleep on the street during my trip in Iceland. It was a horrible experience. Paying this price felt like a scam, and I didn’t feel safe.

A 24/7 supermarket is on the same street, and there are parking areas nearby. The location is great. The apartment was cozy and well equipped, with a washing machine and dryer in the bathroom, which came in handy for a trip around the Reykjavik area lasting more than a few days.
