Igdlo Guesthouse

The staff we met were all super friendly and helpful, and the location was handy for the bus station, about a 15-minute walk from the main tourist areas. We were in room 502, in a separate house from the check-in building. That was fine, though there was no tea or coffee in that house. It was free all day at the other one, and breakfast there cost £5 each for the stay, good value if you didn’t mind the walk. The room was fine for sleeping after long excursions. The towels felt scratchy, and one had a stain that put me off a bit. The bedsheet had rips, though it looked clean. Walls and doors didn’t block sound well.

The room was comfortable and did what we needed for a place to sleep in Reykjavík. There was a useful sink in the room, and the kitchen had at least three sets of burners and free food fridges. The kitchen and eating areas felt a little grimy, though. We were a group sharing a room with multiple beds, with no private bathroom, so we used the shared toilets and showers on the first and second floors. The guesthouse staff were friendly and held our luggage on checkout day while we explored the city. The showers were the big problem. The first-floor one was badly clogged, with murky water pooling around your feet. I strongly recommend shower shoes. I ended up showering for about 15 seconds, turning off the water, waiting for it to drain, then repeating. The door had panels and a limp curtain that was hard to slide, smelled bad, and didn’t cover well. Friends said the second-floor shower was cleaner and unclogged, so I tried it the next day. It was always running and couldn’t be turned off, which must waste a lot of water. The lights up there weren’t working either. At night I couldn’t turn them on, so I had to use the gross first-floor shower again. The next morning my friend couldn’t turn the light off. The showers were so bad that I paid 1000 ISK to shower at the Laugavegur trail backcountry huts, which were cleaner and nicer in my opinion. If you don’t need to shower, though, this guesthouse is solid.

The bathrooms were spotless, and the rooms and kitchen were clean too. There was plenty of room to prepare food, and breakfast felt cozy. The surroundings were quiet, the staff were the nicest, and the center was about a 10-minute walk away. Thanks for the lovely stay and advice!

We chose a room with a private bathroom, which was clean and convenient, and stayed comfortably for three nights at Igdlo Guesthouse. The shared kitchen was well equipped and useful for making meals. It’s in a quiet spot but only a short walk from the city center, so getting around was easy. Good value for a simple, restful stay in Reykjavik.
