Guesthouse Gerði

The view from the cabin and the food were the only reasons I stayed. The food was just okay, and I wish I’d spent both nights at Hótel Jökulsarlon, which was much nicer and comparable in price. On the way to my cabin I had to drive over a live electric wire lying on the ground. The “new cabin” also had a serious problem: a piece of sheet metal kept banging around, so I asked to change rooms. They gave me their last twin room, but it had a high-pitched whistling noise. I gave up at that point because nothing else was available. The bed was very springy too. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Friendly, welcoming hosts made us feel right at home, and the quiet surroundings were lovely. The guesthouse is cozy, clean, comfortable, and well maintained, a nice place to relax after exploring. It’s in a great location and was excellent value. I’d recommend it to anyone traveling through Iceland.

We had the best lamb I’ve tasted at their restaurant, their own lamb from the farm, and breakfast was better than at some pricier hotels. Guesthouse Gerdi is only about a 10-minute drive from the Ice Lagoon, Jökulsarslónid, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and nice. It’s a country hotel, so don’t expect urban luxury, but for what it is, it’s excellent value. Recommended!

The location is very close to Diamond Beach and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, but I was very disappointed with the rooms. They were extremely basic, with no drink facilities at all, not even a glass for water or a kettle. The TV didn’t work in either of our two rooms. The room was on the cool side, and there were no heating controls, radiators, or air vents to change that.
