Hotel dei Macchiaioli

It’s easy to get around from here, with the train station and popular sights both close by. My room was roomy and clean, and the price felt fair for what I got. Just be aware that in the room I had, the bathroom was separate.

The breakfast room has paintings, and the food was nice, so don’t skip it. My own room was clean and comfortable, with a pretty big bathroom, paintings across the ceiling, and even a chimney. The staff were kind and the service was great.

It’s a very central spot, and there’s a museum on the ground floor that was easy to get into at night. My room was large and really clean, with a lovely balcony lined with plants. There’s no elevator, which made getting bags to the second floor tricky, but the staff kindly carried them up and back down for us.

The staff were welcoming and happy to answer questions. I was trying to get by in Italian, though I’m pretty sure everyone I met spoke English or could work things out. Breakfast had a nice mix of fruit, pastries, and packaged snacks, and staff will make fresh coffee at the espresso bar if you ask. The hotel’s location worked well for visiting Florence’s main sights, and my room was clean and comfortable. It had a shower, towels, hand soap, and combined shampoo and body wash. My travel companion noticed there were no washcloths, which other Americans might want to know. WiFi came with the room, but it was so unreliable there that I had to use the main hallway instead. Finding the place was odd at first: I walked past it because the sign was easy to miss, then doubled back to an entrance down a hall. A mat was the only clue that the marble staircase led to the hotel, with reception at the top. After a day of walking around the city and climbing steps, coming back to those stairs when all I wanted was a rest wasn’t appealing.
