Palazzo Alfani al David

We stayed at Palazzo Alfani and found it a great base for exploring. The rooms were spacious and clean, and Francesca and Valeria were helpful, sharing lots of useful information for our visit. From the train station it was an easy walk. With more luggage, there’s a tram stop at the end of the block, opposite the wonderful Ristorante Accademia and terrific All’Antico Vinaio sandwich shop.

Valeria’s hospitality made us feel the warmth and welcome we associate with Italy as soon as we arrived. The room was impeccably clean, spacious, and simply and elegantly decorated. Its high ceiling made it feel like living in a castle. The tram and bus stop are about 100 meters away, and Carrefour is just a few meters from the hotel. Francesca was so nice and patient when I booked, answering all my little questions, though she’s on family vacation this week. This was the best hotel of our Italy trip. Google gives it only three stars, but to me the room, location, and service were better than at five-star hotels. We’ll definitely stay here again if we come to Florence, and I’ll recommend it to friends visiting.

The room was large and bright, with a kitchen stocked with all the kitchenware, which I was most pleased with. The landlord was very enthusiastic and set up a WeChat account to make it easier to communicate with tourists from China. I was very satisfied with the stay. The Gallery of the Academy of Florence is across the street downstairs, and there are small supermarkets and good restaurants nearby. Transport is convenient, with lots of buses at Piazza San Macro.

We’d definitely come back. Valeria and Francesca were really nice and accommodating, and our rooms facing the internal garden were spacious, beautiful, and surprisingly quiet for such a busy area. A lovely place to stay in Florence.
