La Sirenella

We first tried this place after a meal at an overpriced restaurant nearby, then came back twice, including for our last night. The owners were wonderful and happy that Americans had found their restaurant. Across our three lunches and dinners, we enjoyed mussels, mushroom and provola pizza, risotto with shrimp and zucchini, and pasta with vongola. My girlfriend happily drank the wine, which was poured very generously. The meal with the beautiful view of the night sea was spectacular. Service was neither slow nor rushed. They weren't trying to turn over the table and get us out for more customers. It's a sleepy beach town during the week, and honestly, this place is a hidden gem.

We went to the beach today and had a little lunch there. The food was very average, and I was shocked to see a 'coperto' added to the bill for a 15-minute pizza meal, at a level I'd expect in a five-star restaurant. The sunbed cost 7,50 Euro. After lunch we stayed on the beach, then went to use the toilet. Two women stopped me and shouted at me, only realizing afterward that I'd eaten there earlier. They laughed like children instead of apologizing. I'm not sure whether someone who only used the beach without eating would be allowed to use the restrooms. The staff's attitude was rude and impolite, and they seemed focused only on Euros.

The staff were unfriendly, and we waited a long time despite the restaurant being empty. My husband's prawns were old, rubbery, and not deveined. I can't even remember what I ordered because it was so bad I didn't eat it. We paid our 50 euros and left to find food elsewhere.

I was so excited to leave this hotel. I'd strongly recommend against eating or staying here. I was there for two nights and three days. At first, I was excited by the beach location and the nice employees, and I had high expectations. That evening things changed, and the employees were rude and had an attitude. The room was tiny, and there was barely room to move in the standing shower. I found ants in my bed. When I asked for clean sheets, I was told they only change them every three days, though they offered to spray chemicals on the bed. The breakfast was horrible, barely a breakfast at all. It felt like they didn't care about guests and just wanted the money. At dinner I ordered lobster, but there was no meat in it. When I told the waiter, he just said I wasn't looking hard enough. There are much better restaurants and hotels out there.
