The staff really stood out during our stay. We had a transportation problem, and Lucia and Francesco kept at it until they found a solution. They also found us a cheaper ride to our destination, provided we paid cash. The woman serving breakfast was so sweet and attentive, and breakfast was generous and tasty, with fresh hot bread, pastries, and even scrambled eggs. We booked directly with the hotel. The cave room was very cool, and the location is central. There were three of us, and those rooms are harder to find in Europe, which pushed the cost up a bit. Just be ready to carry your bags over stairs and cobblestones, which can damage the wheels, though the hotel can arrange helpers if needed. Highly recommend this place!

The staff were helpful and friendly in every way, and the hotel was great value for such a memorable stay. It's a unique historic property in a good spot for getting around, with a taxi just a two minute walk away up or down the steps. We had a spacious, comfortable room with a terrace and a wonderful city view, where we spent a lot of time. Guests without their own terrace can use the shared one, which also has a great view. Breakfast offered a nice mix of sweet and savory food. I'd love to stay again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Matera.

Just book it. The hotel, rooms, and staff are all five stars. Breakfast is included and really good too.

The location was beautiful, but my bedroom had ants and a strong damp smell. The big windows couldn't really be opened because of the constant cigarette smell, which was very annoying. People smoke a lot.
