Hotel Tocq

A very modern hotel, with spacious, super clean rooms. The bed was a proper bed, unlike in some Italian hotels where two singles are pushed together. The staff were polite and happy to answer questions or help.

We came as a family, hoping for a relaxing stay, but the noise made that nearly impossible. The hotel is right beside several nightclubs, and from about 1 AM to 5 AM each night we heard shouting and fights, revving cars, and loud music outside. After the first night I had to plug my ears, and good sleep was hard to get. The location is outside the city center, with everything at least a 20-minute walk away. We often needed a taxi or public transport to reach the main attractions. It also felt more like a business hotel, with people coming and going, than a welcoming place for families to unwind. Our room was clean and comfortable enough, but the shower had no door, so water got all over the floor. The temperature kept changing from scalding to freezing, which made showering uncomfortable. Even bottled water wasn’t included. We asked for some in the room and were told we’d have to buy it, and there wasn’t a complimentary bottle on arrival. Service was disappointing too. The breakfast buffet had lots of options, but the food wasn’t anything special. When we asked for coffee, the waitress seemed annoyed, pointed at the machine, and told us to make it ourselves. The concierge rarely greeted us and wasn’t very helpful when we asked for restaurant or sightseeing tips. Between the sleepless nights, unhelpful staff, and inconvenient location, this was one of the more disappointing stays of our trip. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone visiting Milan.

Our room was spacious, and the bed and pillows were quite comfortable. The staff were friendly; they gave us a room when we arrived at 11 AM and held our luggage after checkout. The metro station, Porta Nuova Shopping Center, and Chinatown are just steps away, and Milano Centrale is only two stops away. Like several other reviewers, though, we heard clubs nearby at night, along with noise from the elevator and hallway. Earplugs might help if you’re a light sleeper.

The staff were welcoming, and the lobby and bar were nice. Our room was spacious, with plenty of shelf space in the bathroom, and the beds were really comfortable. It’s a modern hotel in a prime location, just a three-minute walk from lots of shops, places to eat, bars, and clubs.
