I stayed five days at the beginning of June and thought it was very good value. I was alone, and the only staff member I dealt with was the owner, an older man who speaks only Italian, but always tries to make himself understood. My first-floor room, number1, was really, really clean. It was small, but all I needed was a clean bed and shower. Reception closes at 23.30. If you need to return later, staff at the Savoia &Campana just down the street can open the door. The old man's sons own that second hotel, and they're amazing, friendly people. I didn't try breakfast. The Conad supermarket is a 3mn walk away. Whenever I was at reception, the gentleman would chat and ask where I was going and what I did, lol. It gave me a chance to practice my limited Italian every day, and now I understand a few more things. Highly recommend, grazie mille!

It was a fun, real Italian experience, and we'd have liked Montecatini a lot less if we hadn't stayed here. There was no ac in the middle of August, but the staff and the cute area made up for it.

A month and a half later, I still feel I should say something. This place only makes sense if you're in town for Lucca Comics and the price is right. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay here. It feels like somewhere to dump your bags and try to sleep for a few nights on a horrible mattress, not a hotel. On arrival, nobody had explained where to go, so we were told, “Go straight to where that lady comes out and ask for the keys there.” We felt completely lost. And the smell on the way to our room was like “grandma's soup.”

For one night, maybe during Lucca Comics, it can do the job, but I'd choose somewhere else for a longer stay. The location is very central and the price is low, though the rooms are tiny, the mattress is too hard, and cleanliness is only adequate. There's free wifi. Reception closes at midnight, and after that you have to go to another property to get a door. Our room had various noises at night, and opening its only window let in a strong cooking smell.
