At 1:16am we gave up and left to pay for different accommodation ourselves. The room was still unbearably hot and stuffy, with air that didn’t feel breathable. We’d checked in during summer to find the AC not working at all, just a blinking light. At 2:40pm, staff suggested over WhatsApp that we try “Sun Mode.” We appreciated the creativity, but a setting wasn’t going to fix the heat. We’d raised the problem at check-in at 2:23pm, then again when we got back at 9:55pm. Neither time did we get an effective solution. When we asked for a refund for the nights we couldn’t stay, management refused, citing a non-refundable policy. We only asked for those nights, not for transport or any other inconvenience. We couldn’t physically remain in the room, but the request was denied. I want to be fair: this hotel has good reviews, which is why I’m writing about a serious failure future guests should know about. A non-refundable policy covers voluntary cancellations. It doesn’t cover being unable to breathe in your room in the middle of an Italian summer. If you’re booking in summer, ask whether the AC actually works before confirming. And if staff tell you to check for the sun setting, that’s not a good sign. We learned the hard way.

The neighborhood felt a bit run-down and out of the way. The rooms were noisy, and sound carried easily between them. Breakfast was at a restaurant a couple of blocks away, with a fairly limited selection. The room was neat and tidy, and staff were friendly and accommodating. It was easy to arrange a taxi, and check-in and checkout went smoothly even though reception was closed.

The staff were so accommodating that they kept our bags in the morning after checkout while we waited for our train. The rooms were clean, and the neighborhood felt safe. You can walk to most places, and the metro is only about 10 minutes away. We absolutely loved staying here. The location is amazing. I’d suggest paying for breakfast: you get vouchers for a nearby French cafe, which is a great deal, and the food is delicious.

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the jet tub was a great treat after a day of walking. The location is perfect for sightseeing, right by the castle and St Peter's basilica, with lots of great restaurants nearby.
