Campo De' Fiori Central Flat

The owner was quick to answer our questions on WhatsApp, and the apartment was clean and comfortable. It’s on the 2nd floor, which meant climbing what felt like pretty steep steps to us Americans. Inside, the apartment has three levels and even more stairs, so be prepared, especially if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage. There were three of us and we were comfortable. The upstairs ceiling is low, and the bathroom is small, as they often are in Europe. The shower is on the first floor. The place is quiet, set off the main road, and the shutters helped block noise and light for a good night’s sleep. We walked to the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, and took a quick bus to the Vatican and Colosseum. There are restaurants downstairs or close by. Rome itself felt dirty compared with NYC, DC, London, Paris and other cities we’ve visited. The alleys smelled, there was trash around, and it seemed cleaner on the Vatican side. It felt like they couldn’t keep up. We didn’t have any trouble with crime or feel unsafe, though we didn’t stay out much after dark.
