Hotel Caravita

The view from the room was over Scalea del Casino Algardi and the green hills, and the receptionist who welcomed us late at night was friendly and helpful. He even found us a small fridge for our own food. Those were the main positives. The bathroom wasn’t clean, and the shower cabin was coming apart. The room also had signs consistent with bed bugs, and there were visible hygiene problems and mold in the bathroom. The bed called a “double” was actually two single beds pushed together, which wasn’t ideal for a couple. There was no kettle, coffee machine, or other basic room amenities. Breakfast was a major letdown: just one kind of cheese, no vegetables or fish, and juices that tasted like sugary artificial drinks. For a hotel in Rome, I found that shocking. The property is presented as though it were five-star, but in practice it felt three-star at best and didn’t even meet that level. I raised my concerns right away and felt dismissed instead of supported. With the hygiene and health concerns, I had no choice but to leave at 4 AM. Despite being forced to go, I wasn’t refunded for the remaining 4 nights. Given the hygiene issues and the way the property is represented, I think the relevant authorities should inspect it. In its current condition, it shouldn’t be operating this way. Future guests should reconsider before booking.

The rooftop terrace restaurant was very nice for breakfast. The food came quickly and was top quality, and the staff were excellent. Our suite was a lovely room, with a big comfortable bed, sofa, TV, fridge, and tea and coffee facilities. The hotel is right in the middle of everything, in a fantastic location.

We didn’t have the cleanliness problems I’d seen mentioned in some reviews. Our room was clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a cocktail on the rooftop and a wonderful breakfast in the restaurant. Hotel Caravita is in a great spot, very close to Trevi and the Spanish steps.

The location was very good, but I don’t understand how this hotel can call itself five-star. I know a boutique hotel is meant to be small, but this one felt extremely small. The lobby was tiny too, and the furniture was outdated. The room doors were poor quality and let through a lot of noise. There was a large gap underneath, so corridor sounds kept waking us between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. The cleaning staff were also very loud, which made things uncomfortable. It took a long time for the water to get warm, the bathroom wasn’t very clean, and we found ants there on the second floor. Overall, it felt more like a three-star place. According to Street View, it apparently was one until 2021.
