Casa Carra

We ran out of toilet paper and had to ask for more. During our five-night stay, the room was never cleaned and the towels were never changed. It was dirty, and the bathroom drains smelled bad. The location is probably the best thing about this place, but for the price you can find much better.

Marco kindly let us store our luggage when we arrived early and again before our late evening flight. The place is around a ten-minute walk from Roma Termini, in a building with an elevator, which helps with heavy bags. There’s a nice bakery around the corner, and the Colosseum is a short walk away.

I booked this B&B through booking.com in March for September 2024. Last week I checked that everything was up to date and saw a recent review saying the hotel no longer exists and had failed to cancel that guest’s reservation. I emailed them right away and contacted booking.com, but after four days I still hadn’t heard back. The website is still active and lets you book a room, but nobody answers the phone. I checked their IVA number, and a business site says the company is inactive. If the business is no longer active, they shouldn’t be offering services. I plan to report them to the authorities for possible fraud.

I found this a decent, relatively inexpensive place for two weeks in Rome, especially since Roma Termini is only about 10 to 15 minutes away. It saved me the hassle of getting across town with my bags when I arrived. Marco was very helpful, and the Wi-Fi was strong. The air conditioning and shower were great, and the firm bed and pillow were comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. There were a couple of things I decided to overlook. I accidentally dislodged part of the refrigerator/freezer and saw what looked like mold on it. I also liked the three-panel sliding shower door, but the panels in my room had come apart, so I had to adjust them to stop water spraying onto the bathroom floor. One morning I left early to visit some basilicas and got yelled at by a cranky older man sweeping the stairs and ground-floor hall. I’m sure he didn’t work for Casa Carra. I had a bag of rubbish to put in the large refuse bin, as I thought I was meant to, since nobody had come to clean the room or empty the trash during my stay. I’d taught myself some Italian before the trip, but not enough to understand what he was shouting.
