Everything was super clean, and both the rooms and service were lovely. The receptionists were really friendly. Just keep in mind it’s apartments rather than a hotel, though we still had a very nice stay.

The best part of the stay was that the bed was made and the towels were changed each day. The memory foam mattress and pillows were comfortable, and we weren’t planning to spend much time in the room anyway. But the ants crawling around the floor made us wary of leaving anything down there. The safe instructions were unclear and it didn’t work, so we tried it a couple of times before calling the owner/manager, who came back to open it. We appreciated that. The stern “Check-out time finish!” also put a damper on things. Finding the place was a shock. The taxi left us by a fruit and vegetable shop on a busy road, in front of a locked gate leading into a dark-looking entrance. Someone was leaving, so we followed them in. There was no concierge, and the building looked like a block of flats. We didn’t know where to go or who to meet, though “Gregorio VII Luxury Suites” was written outside the iron bars. After searching our booking details and finding nobody around, we called. The suite was upstairs on the first floor, reached by a rickety, claustrophobic 18th-century lift. The entrance looked like the one in the first photo, just another apartment block entrance. Inside, it really was a converted block of flats. It looked fairly decent for the area, but more like a bed and breakfast than a luxury suite. A maid cleaned the room each day. We’d expected a luxury hotel from the online listing, but what we found was a bunch of converted flats.

We had to leave. The building is old, the elevator doesn’t work, and it’s an apartment building. Our room was near the door, so we could hear everything. The price was far too high for what we actually got. This is nowhere near a luxury suite.
