Hotel Washington

There was a lot of black mold in our room, and they refused to refund us while lying several times about how the refund process worked. The worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Terrible business. DON’T STAY HERE.

There was a bag of chips in the bedside table drawer, and the room hadn’t been swept or mopped. The bed had dirty duvets, the bathroom had dirty towels, and there was no heating. Reception was unstaffed, so we had to call whenever we needed something. On checkout day, they refused to keep our suitcases, saying there was no space, even though a few hours earlier they’d said they could. Zero professionalism. The worst hotel we’ve ever visited.

Hotel Washington in Rome charged me for a no-show even though they had called to say they had no room for me. I booked one night through Booking.com for October 18-19, 2025. At around 4 PM, just as I was about to head there with my suitcase, the hotel called and said no rooms were available and Booking.com had made the reservation by mistake. They told me not to come. Rome had several events that weekend, including a half-marathon, so I spent the next three hours finding somewhere else and eventually got a room near the airport through Booking.com. When I complained to Booking.com, the hotel told them they “could have honored the booking.” Please be aware, I believe Hotel Washington in Rome is a scam and is run by liars. Losing $400 bothers me less than being left stranded in Rome without a room.

I spent about six nights here, and when I came back to stay, they reminded me to call ahead to check there was a room. They were full, but still pointed me in the right direction to find somewhere in Rome. I honestly felt they cared and were concerned that I hadn’t called. The young men and the lady who served me were good, decent people who wouldn’t mistreat you. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, despite what I’d read in other reviews. The street can get crazy, but the hotel is behind a huge metal Gothic sort of door that only patrons and staff can access. It’s Rome, things get hectic sometimes, but I’ve never felt safer, and they won’t let any harm come to you while you’re staying there. For the price and kindness, Hotel Washington is at the top of my list in Rome.
