La Farfalla

The lady who checked me in really made the stay. She was approachable, shared great sightseeing tips for Rome, and gave useful advice about avoiding pickpockets. The place has a simple, charming Roman style, and the shared toilet was surprisingly spacious and spotless. It’s very close to Roma Termini and surrounded by good restaurants, so you’re paying for convenience and I thought it was worth every penny. My stay was incredible, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.

The room was infested with bedbugs, and I couldn’t sleep without getting bitten. That’s unacceptable for a place meant to host guests. The manager took no responsibility and offered no real solution, only empty apologies to avoid dealing with it. I’ve never seen such unprofessional behavior. Avoid this hotel. There are much better options, and nothing makes this experience worth going through.

The owner was kind and gave us plenty of advice, and Farfalla is an affordable place within easy walking distance of the colosseum. The room looked clean at first, but I’d suggest checking under the bed. After our first night, I woke up with lots of bites on my arms, neck, and even my face. We thought it might be mosquitoes or an allergic reaction. A few days later, we found and killed a bug on the bed that looked a lot like a bed bug, then spotted another on the wall and took a video. We tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but it seemed likely they were bed bugs. We’ve also posted pictures, so make of that what you will, and be careful. It added a lot of stress, especially since we stayed the whole time while trying to convince ourselves we hadn’t seen what we saw. Now we have to go straight to a laundromat when we get home because we don’t want to risk bringing anything into our home. I hope the owner takes this as a reason to improve the rooms’ hygiene for future guests.

For a reasonable price, you get a nice little room in a good spot, and the host was very helpful.
