Hotel Nazionale

The view from our Executive Room made the stay feel special: we looked over Piazza Montecitorio toward Italy’s Parliament, with the Obelisk of Montecitorio, dating to the 6th century BC, standing there below. The room’s high ceilings added to the sense of occasion, and after long days seeing the city, the spectacular Jacuzzi was wonderfully restorative. Breakfast was generous, with plenty of choices. The staff were gracious and polished, always around when needed but never intrusive. Hotel Nazionale feels rooted in a long Roman tradition, with a real sense of place and care. The location makes it easy to explore on foot, with the Pantheon just steps away and the Trevi Fountain close by. We’d return without hesitation.

This was the final stop on our Italy trip, and a disappointing way to end it. When we arrived at 9am, the front desk said the room wasn’t ready and asked us to leave our bags with the concierge so they could bring them up later. The room we were given was right by the lift. Since we’re light sleepers, I asked if there was another option. A concierge showed us one away from the lifts, which was perfect. I went downstairs to swap the keys and thank them. Three staff members were together; they handed over the new keys and took the old ones. One looked at the sleeve with my surname on it, they said “yeo? Yo! Yo yo yo!” to each other, then burst out laughing. We’d been in Italy for 10 days and were used to people greeting us with “Buongiorno,” so it was a shock to say hello and get no response. Over the following days, we felt ignored at all hours, even though the lift was right in front of the desk and staff could hardly miss people coming and going. We also noticed European and American guests being greeted enthusiastically. The hotel is in a superb spot, with Giolotti, a fantastic gelato place, just around the corner, Illy coffee at breakfast, and 24/7 security because it’s beside the Italian parliament. Added: The hotel’s response supports what I described. I checked in and my passport details are on file, yet suddenly my nationality has been changed.

Loretta Brunetti was prompt, professional, and communicated so well. Her helpfulness and dedication really stood out, and the hotel’s care for customer satisfaction made a big difference to my experience. I’ll gladly recommend the hotel to friends and family. We’ve stayed here five times already, and our sixth visit is coming up in December. The location is fabulous for walking to lots of the main attractions. The mini suites are beautiful and kept impeccable, and breakfast is delicious. There’s a quiet, quaint bar for an evening drink, plus lovely restaurants around every corner, along with shopping and gelaterias. We won’t stay anywhere but the Nazionale!
