The Pantheon's architecture, history, scale, and engineering are incredible, and it was one of the highlights of my trip. I loved the famous oculus, which lets beautiful natural light into the space and gives it such a unique feel. When it rains, water comes straight through it, but the floor's slight slope and hidden drains carry it away. We went the day after a big race, so the lines were long, but having tickets meant we got in pretty quickly. Get tickets in advance. It's a must-see in Rome, and amazing to think about how long this building has stood.

A stunning piece of ancient Roman art, and much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Getting in was straightforward. The line to enter was only about five minutes, though buying tickets with cash took longer. Tickets cost five euros per person.

We passed the Pantheon but didn't feel like waiting to go inside. Instead, we stopped at the local salami shop right next door and tasted some cheeses and sausage, then headed on to the fountain to keep sightseeing because there were so many people around. Still, it was well worth stopping to see the wonderful building.

The Pantheon is compact, so most people can see it in under an hour. Give yourself 30-90 minutes if you want to linger over the marble rotunda, the oculus, Raphael's tomb, and the Savoy royal tombs of Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I, and Margherita, or join a guided tour. It's at Piazza della Rotonda, an easy walk from central stops such as Barberini or the Pantheon area. The pedestrian square outside is a lovely spot for photos of the portico. Entry has been ticketed for most visitors since July 2023. Standard admission is commonly listed at around €5, though some residents and special days may have free or reduced entry. Check eligibility and booking terms before assuming it's free. Online tickets, audio guides, and guided tours are available, and booking ahead can help you avoid queues. Some operators also offer fast entry with audio options. Usual hours are roughly 09:00-19:00, with last admission about 30-45 minutes before closing. It closes on some public holidays, such as Dec 25 and Jan 1, and hours can change for liturgies. Masses, ceremonies, and state events may affect access or opening times, so check the official timetable or ticket page that morning. If you're hoping for a quieter visit, plan around Mass times. Early morning or late afternoon can mean fewer crowds and nicer light on the portico and inside. It's a consecrated church, so modest dress and respectful behavior are requested. Cover your shoulders and knees if possible. Photography is usually allowed, but follow signs and any service-related closures.

The Pantheon is right in the historical center, easy to reach while exploring, and its square is lively and full of energy. Entry is usually well organized, even when there are crowds. This was a 10/10 experience and the highlight of my Rome trip. Bring your camera, because every corner feels like a masterpiece. Inside, the huge dome is the standout. The engineering still blows my mind, especially the open oculus at the top, which brings in natural light and rain. There are tombs of famous people, including Raphael and Italian kings. And standing in front of the building, I could hardly take in that this massive structure has been here for nearly 2,000 years. It's one of the best-preserved ancient Roman buildings in the world, and an architectural marvel you can't miss.
