The Hoxton Rome

The staff were excellent, breakfast was good and reasonably priced, and the lobby had comfortable seating with stylish, artsy decor. The rooms had similarly nice finishes and fixtures. But for what this hotel costs, the bathroom problems were unacceptable. The toilet leaked water every time it flushed, and the door scraped against the frame and floor, making a really loud noise. I told the staff, and they only partly fixed things. Broken and missing floor tile was another issue. The location is somewhere between the best and worst, but it’s a fair way from the city center. I once had to walk half an hour back.

The breakfast staff member was outstandingly friendly every morning, and I was so impressed that I shook his hand when we left. The rest of the staff were helpful too. Breakfast is served from a set menu, which was okay, though I’d prefer a buffet. One tip: “two eggs your own way” doesn’t include bacon, but you can ask for it with that dish. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and extra milk or coffee are available if you ask reception. Not a big deal, but we paid good money for six nights, so it stood out. Our room was stylish, spacious, and comfortable, and the air-con seemed to work fine. We were there in winter, so I can’t say how it would be in summer. Facing the main road meant some noise from people beeping their horns, though it wasn’t unbearable. We could also hear people above us, especially when something hit the floor. I don’t think anyone was staying in the rooms on either side. The place has a jazz club feel in its decor, even though there wasn’t jazz music. When you enter, the music and lounge area are quite loud, and reception isn’t obvious. You have to walk past the bar to find it, which is a bit unusual. The hotel is clean and nicely presented, with a little luxury feel. It’s a bit out of town, though. For a first trip focused on Rome’s historic sites, I probably wouldn’t stay here again. I think you could find better value closer in.

The restaurant was so good that we were glad we stayed in for dinner, and Federico and Carlos made it even better. They were attentive, fun to talk with, and extremely friendly. We spent ten nights in Italy, and our last stop at the Hoxton was the best night of the trip. The hotel and rooms are beautiful, the neighborhood is quiet, and the service was excellent. The shower was huge with great pressure, the bed was comfortable, and we loved the little radio playing Italian music. We’ll absolutely stay again when we come back to Rome.

Street noise during morning rush hour led me to switch to a courtyard room after the first night. It was peaceful and quiet after that. The bed was comfortable, and the service was excellent. Lovely hotel.
