Hotel Villa Glori

The main kitchen is right beside rooms 50, 40, and 60. We were in room 50, and the noise started around 6:00 AM: dishes clanging, silverware being sorted into metal bins, and the roar of the commercial kitchen. It went on relentlessly, so we couldn't sleep. It feels like the hotel squeezed every possible Euro out of the floor plan at the expense of basic comfort. We arrived late at night to a cramped, dingy first-floor room that smelled damp. We accepted it as somewhere to sleep, but that became impossible. For €289, the front desk offered only free breakfast in the kitchen that had woken us, or a late checkout so we could “rest” in the same noisy room. They refused any kind of refund. That response felt insulting, and the management feels predatory. Don't stay here on principle. If you do, avoid the “galley” rooms or expect to be awake before sunrise.

The area is nice, with eateries nearby, though it's a fair walk to central Rome and I think you could take the tram. Our room was lovely and clean, with a huge bathroom. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, and the staff were always very courteous.

The location was good, but the rooms were tiny, and the bathroom was extremely small with a very cramped shower stall. Service was poor. The hotel's water was shut off for almost 24 hours with no warning, and the staff didn't bother to tell us when it happened. When we called the front desk to ask what was going on, they seemed completely unbothered. There's no way this is a four-star hotel.

The value for money is good, but don't expect luxury at the price. The staff were polite, helpful, and spoke English. Breakfast was good if you like continental food, with plenty of tea and coffee and some nice cakes, though there was no full English breakfast. The room was adequate, and the bed was large with a very firm mattress. That suited me but not my partner. There was a fridge with cold drinks, but we would have preferred a kettle with tea and coffee in the room. The shower was disappointing. The water pressure was strong until you wanted it hot, then it became a dribble. We felt safe walking back to the hotel, though some districts aren't as safe at night, so be careful. The hotel is within walking distance of the sights if you don't mind a long walk. The Vatican is about an hour away on foot, and the Colosseum is farther. For door-to-door travel, the tram, buses, or a taxi are easier.
