Hotel Leon Bianco

Dragging our luggage from the farthest lot, P1, wasn't much fun since the other lots were full, though we had been warned this might happen. Once there, the location was fantastic: our room looked right over the square, yet the windows kept the noise out. The room's interior wasn't anything special, but it was clean and cool, and we loved being right in the heart of the square.

The central spot and the views were the only real positives for us. The room felt like a sad motel, and I regretted staying here more than anywhere else on my trip. It was dated and uncomfortable, with an unpleasant bed and bedding. The hot tub water didn't look clean and the tub wouldn't heat up; the bored man at reception said he had no idea why. The fitness centre was bare bones, with just one set of 2lb weights, and breakfast was the worst we had in Italy. It felt as if nobody cared about the place. I know it's an old building, but small changes like better pillows and duvets, a trash can in the room, and a different bed frame and decor would make a big difference.

We visited in October and stayed at Hotel Leon Bianco in San Gimignano. Our spacious room had a stunning view, and the large bathroom was very clean. Check-in staff were friendly, and breakfast offered lots of good choices. There was a kettle, but no tea or coffee in the room; you could ask the front desk for some. I'd recommend staying here.

The view is the standout, and the main square is right outside the front door. The staff were courteous and the rooms very clean. Such a beautiful hotel in an amazing location, a really special place.
