Hotel Starkenberg

The wellness area was lovely, with a sauna and space to unwind, and the hotel pool was beautiful and warm. We spent three days here and felt very well looked after. The breakfasts were generous, the afternoon snacks delicious, and dinner was excellent each evening. Definitely recommend it!

The location is a real plus: Schenna Castle and the town center are right there, and Merano is only a short drive away. Staff were very polite, and the full-board food was very good for an already low price. The spa is quite adequate, and although some parts of the hotel look dated, other areas are modern and high quality. The fitness room is the weak spot for me. There are four cardio machines, but anyone lifting weights is limited to dumbbells up to 12 kg and an older machine that's hard to figure out until you've used it two or three times. Even if the room doesn't get much use, I'd suggest investing in it a little, with heavier weights and a better machine.

The mattresses weren't comfortable, and water isn't included with half board. A bottle costs 5.40, which felt far too high. Aside from those points, our four days were wonderful: the cuisine, cleanliness, location, and services were all excellent, including the pool and spa.

We’re back here again now, after coming for years, and the service has always been excellent. The food is outstanding and varied, with something for everyone, and the staff are exceptionally polite and attentive. If someone can’t appreciate this place, that’s on them. Mallorca (Ballermann) would probably suit those people better.
