Hotel Alpenhof

A good-quality family hotel. The rooms are clean and the food is good.

We had a wonderful holiday here. The ski bus stops right outside, the rooms are functional, and the staff at Hotel Alpenhof are incredibly friendly. Dinner was outstanding, with five courses every evening and vegetarian choices available if requested.

The new spa is the hotel’s highlight for me. There’s lots of glass and a lovely mountain view, making it a pleasant place to unwind after skiing. The location also makes a ski trip easy to organize, with the ski bus stop right by the hotel, plus a grocery store and ski rental nearby. The Slovenian staff deserve special credit. They were polite, helpful, and professional. My experience with the owner was quite different: she seemed unsympathetic and often visibly scowled. At one meal, she placed plates on the table rather nervously. Another time, she passed us by with dessert when she saw that the Italian guests at the next table hadn’t received theirs yet, and served them first. That didn’t feel very elegant. The building feels dated and could use a refresh. Cleanliness was average, acceptable but with room for improvement. I’d give the food 3 out of 5: portions were small and the menu modest, although the four courses did leave us full. The location and spa are strong points, but the building, food, and staff management could all be better.

The location is very central, and the hotel is close to the Langenstein chairlift. The sauna is spacious and lovely, with an outdoor view. Most of the staff were friendly, attentive, and very nice, apart from one woman who unfortunately came across as unfriendly. The food was good to very good. Inside, though, it feels dated: lots of pictures make the atmosphere a bit gloomy, and some furniture looks straight out of the 1960s.
