Valentina, the host, was friendly and gave us a list of restaurants to try. We went to two and were very happy with both. The location is superb, right in the city but tucked down a side street away from the noise of the busier roads. The room was small, so pack light, but it was clean and comfortable, and the bed was too. We couldn’t get the AC to turn on, though we don’t know if there was no remote or if the switch wasn’t working. We’d definitely stay here again.

Casa Petrarca was a great place to stay, and I’m already looking forward to visiting Venice again. The room was on the small side but clean, comfortable, and charming. The simple breakfast was delicious and a nice start before heading out. We were worried about sharing a bathroom, but there are only a few rooms, so it was always available when needed, and I never saw the other guests. The location is right in the center, so it’s easy to walk everywhere. Valentina made me feel at home from the moment we arrived. She left a note for our late arrival and useful guides for the next day, and was warm and helpful with advice on exploring the city. She made the trip special. It feels like a secret hideaway in the middle of a bustling city.

During carnival week, I had a very pleasant two-night stay. It was handy to be just a short walk from boat stop no. 2. Valentina was super friendly and made me feel at home. The room was clean, with complimentary water, and the mini fridge cooled things well. They provided a simple breakfast with boiled eggs, toast, coffee, and pastry, just enough to get the morning started. I’d highly recommend the place and would definitely come back.

Breakfast was literally bread, wasn’t included, and cost 15€. We’d have skipped it if we’d known. We wanted eggs, but at 8:30 they said there were none left, even though breakfast starts at 8:00 and we arrived at 8:15. Other tables got to the eggs as soon as they came out and left none for us. We were also scolded for booking through a third party because they couldn’t reach us, but it’s their job to know where customers booked. We’ve used booking.com for practically all our trips. The room was small and felt like a prison, with no air circulation and an uncomfortable mattress. The bathroom was shared, and the shower was so tiny that you couldn’t shower without making the water scalding hot or turning it off. We’ve travelled a lot and were surprised by all the good reviews that led us to choose this place. It presents itself as a hotel, but felt more like an AirBnB or even a hostel. Respectfully, we wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it.

On our last day, after a very rainy spell, they let us use the bathroom to change out of our wet clothes after we came back to collect our luggage. They had kindly stored our bags while we enjoyed our last cicchetti and spritz in town. That was extremely kind of them. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Venice and easy to reach everywhere. Our room at Locanda Casa Petrarca was cozy, warm, and extremely clean, and breakfast was good. The staff were very friendly and shared recommendations for art galleries and the best exhibitions. We travel to Venice every year and will always stay at this lovely hotel. Thank you!
