Casa Mimma

The location was perfect, on a quiet road about a 10-minute walk from the bus station and close to other amenities. The room was clean and had good air conditioning, and arranging the key safe code over WhatsApp was easy. But that was about the only good part. We booked a room for four with a shared bathroom, and found two single beds and one double. One single bed was far too soft and you sank into it. The other had broken slats that looked like they’d been glued and repaired several times. If you sat on the wrong side or moved, a slat popped out. The in-room safe had a broken lock, so after locking it we couldn’t unlock it. The bathroom didn’t smell, but it didn’t look especially clean or tidy either. We met the owner in the morning and had asked about breakfast. Coffee, juice, and cakes were offered for an extra 20 euros for the four of us. We thought we’d eat before going sightseeing, but one of my sons changed his mind. The owner still wanted to charge for his breakfast. When I explained that my son wasn’t eating, he laughed at me sarcastically and made me feel ridiculous for not paying another 5 euros for food he hadn’t had. We then asked to sit in the garden, but the small area already had two families of four eating. They quickly put out the only other little table for us beside some smelly bins. The croissants were very dry and tasted like the kind sold in supermarket multipacks. There was also toast, French toast, and jam. The cappuccino tasted like very watered-down instant coffee, and my son’s orange juice was so diluted that it tasted nothing like juice. Overall, the service was very disappointing, and the owner seemed to care only about money. For what we paid, we could have found much better service elsewhere in Venice with a similarly good location. Avoid.
