The staff were great, always happy to help with questions about the hotel or the neighborhood, and there are shops and several restaurants nearby. The water bus is close too, so getting to the other side of Venice or to Murano and Burano is easy. Breakfast includes English and continental options. The selection could be better, but you won’t leave hungry. It’s a great hotel in a superb location, just a few minutes’ walk from St. Mark’s Square in the Castello district. Hotel Corte dei Greci is in a former 17th-century palace on Fondamenta dell’Osmarin. It was once an elegant home of a Venetian aristocratic family, and still has marble floors, Sansovino-style beamed ceilings, frescoes, and damask fabrics. The name means “Courtyard of the Greeks” and reflects the Greek community that settled in this part of Venice from the 16th century onward. The Church of San Giorgio dei Greci and the former Greek Brotherhood headquarters, the Scuola dei Greci, are close by. There’s no definitive evidence the palace itself belonged to that community, but the name and location clearly connect it to that history. A thorough restoration in the 21st century renewed the façade and restored frescoes and wooden ceilings, while adding modern comforts like air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and safety systems. The work aimed to keep the palace’s historic character while making it comfortable as a modern hotel. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to stay near the center with good links to other parts of the city.

Bed bugs during our seven-night stay. I saw two and caught a live one in a Ziploc bag to show the reception staff. My partner’s torso was covered in bites that grew bigger and redder each day. The hotel has no mattress covers and didn’t seem to know the right way to handle an infestation. They moved us to a smaller room, and did so begrudgingly, but offered no compensation for the room change or for the laundry we had to spend our last vacation day doing. Beware.

The rooms were beautiful and clean, and breakfast was excellent, served in a stunning, huge room upstairs. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. It’s a hotel with lovely Venetian character, right by the canal and so close to everything. I don’t understand some of the ratings here, since one even has photos of a different place. I’d recommend staying here.

We loved the family room. It had plenty of space for the kids and all our stuff, and the flowering wallpaper made it feel bright and welcoming instead of generic. The elegant chandelier added a bit of old Venetian charm. It wasn’t huge or gaudy, and even the kids were fascinated by it. The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful with directions and recommendations. Breakfast was standard continental fare, nothing special, but it got us ready for a day out. Ask reception about the free entry to the Mocenigo glass factory on Murano Island. Corte de Greci is a cute little three-star place in the Greek area, and it really worked for our family trip. We were in a quieter pocket of the city, away from the crowds around the main sights, but could still walk everywhere. Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square were easy strolls, and we enjoyed wandering the backstreets. There were also lovely local restaurants and shops nearby that felt more authentic. For us, it was a charming, comfortable base and a little oasis in the busy city. We made lovely memories and would stay again.

The breakfast was a real highlight, fresh, plentiful, and excellent. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout. We had a wonderful stay and found everything perfect. We’d gladly come back and highly recommend the hotel.
