Airone Hotel

The rooms are very old, but clean, with great stone floors. It’s good value. Reception is at the hotel next door, and the receptionists are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Hotel Airone cancelled my reservation on May 1st, without my agreement, and more than a month later I still hadn’t received a refund. I contacted the hotel directly several times and got no reply, explanation, apology, or action. Just silence. This was an awful experience while travelling, with no professionalism or responsibility. I only finally got my money back after six months, through my bank, which reviewed the case and disputed the transactions. I assume the bank recovered it from the hotel through legal action. I value my time, money, and peace of mind, and can’t recommend this place.

Small, simple place, but clean, with clean sheets and decent Wi-Fi. I stayed one night during my euro trip. It’s nothing fancy, just a single room with a shared bathroom, but the location near the train station is great. Booked through Agoda.

Be very wary of prepayment, even when a booking says “free cancellation.” I booked in December for dates more than five months away, choosing Hotel Airone and Hotel Canal as alternatives without realizing they were basically the same place. I cancelled two bookings after confirming my dates, then later cancelled the Canal booking too. The full amount had been charged immediately, which didn’t seem normal for free cancellation. The hotel never refunded me after my first cancellation in January, and Booking.com didn’t either. The hotel ignored my repeated questions, and Booking.com didn’t take responsibility as I believe it should have. I eventually got the money back six months later, but only after my bank reviewed the matter and disputed the transactions. The hotels are well located and reasonably priced, but even if you’re completely certain about your booking, they may cancel it themselves, leaving you without the reservation and your money. Reviews suggest many people have been scammed. I’d treat these bookings as having no cancellation option at all, and apparently they can still cancel on you. Don’t prepay.
