Hotel Al Malcanton

We got to check in early, and the staff kindly let us leave our bags there for free. They were so accommodating. The rooms were clean, and the balcony was adorable. We loved staying here!

The staff were really sweet and helpful, and I loved the lovely little garden visible from my bedroom window. The hotel is in a peaceful part of Dorsoduro, Venice, while still being within walking distance of everything. Such a lovely place to stay!

I was given a room on the first floor, which is the second floor in US terms, and I’d recommend it. In the morning, doors from several ground-floor rooms open straight onto the breakfast area, so some people may find those rooms less private. The gate and stairs leading up to the first floor are a lovely part of the hotel. It’s hard to imagine a better spot unless you’re right on a canal. You’re near transport into the city but still in the heart of Venice. I was there for a week in January. The breakfast, served in the small lobby, was nice, though the seating area in the back garden wasn’t being used then. Staff were super helpful. Mr Davide was fantastic before I arrived, explaining how to handle the trip from the airport. I got around fine using Google Maps, though I appreciated his map and his tip to use squares as landmarks instead of street names. I arrived late at Marco Polo airport and took the Atvo bus into Venice for about €20. If you can afford it and aren’t arriving in the middle of the night, I’d suggest the water taxi, around €100-€150, over the bus. Especially on a first visit, it’s a wonderful way to arrive in the city. My bus pass included the return trip, but I booked a taxi back to the airport at sunset, with help from the hotel owner, and it was absolutely worth it.

The rooms are simple, but very clean, and breakfast was good. It’s a small, friendly hotel in a great spot, within easy walking distance of bus and train connections. The staff were efficient and helpful. For the price, I’d really recommend it.
