Charming Castello Apartments

Housekeeping was the part I liked. The hotel itself felt very old, even scary, though whoever took the picture did a great job. Service wasn’t good either. The receptionist wasn’t friendly, and sometimes nobody was at the desk. Since you have to leave your key with them, you’re left hoping someone comes back. For that price, you could get a much better hotel off the island.

A few minutes from Piazza San Marco, this is a very convenient base for walking around Venice. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were kind and helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. The building and furnishings are traditional, with ornate details and a vintage feel. It’s not modern, and the room showed some age, though it was cared for. The quiet at night was a nice surprise given how central it is. Breakfast was simple but good, served in a quaint dining room that suited the old-world style. Hotel Castello has a lot of charm and feels right at home in the city’s historic setting. It isn’t luxurious or ultra-modern, but it’s a comfortable, authentic-feeling stay with friendly service and a hard-to-beat location.

The location is amazing, but the staff aren’t very good. They have rules they don’t tell you about until you’ve checked in and are already in your room. You can’t even eat food in the room. Do not stay here.
