Hotel La Fenice Et Des Artistes

For a disabled traveler in Venice, Hotel La Fenice et Des Artistes worked about as well as I could expect, but accessibility is mixed, so planning ahead matters. There are two steps up from the street, then a glass foyer with a tight turn to reach the building. I didn’t see a ramp at the entrance. Inside, a ramp connects reception with the hallway by the elevator and breakfast area. The elevator is very small and slow, and two people with a checked bag make a tight fit. If you have a timed luggage pickup, allow at least 15 extra minutes to avoid stress. We requested an accessible room and were given one near the elevator, which helped a lot. It had a standing shower and bidet, but the shower space was very tight and there were no grab bars in the bathroom. Helpful staff and some accessibility features, but the steps, cramped spaces, and tiny elevator make this better suited to travelers who can manage tight layouts and extra time.

The hotel is in a great spot for getting around on foot, about five minutes from San Marco Square and the Grand Canal, a minute from the theatre, and close to the main streets and shops. It has a nicely done theatre-inspired look, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also arranged a 5am breakfast box for us without any trouble. Our room was a decent size with a large bathroom, adequate equipment, and beds that were comfortable enough. It was quiet, though there wasn’t really a view. The air conditioning made some noise, but it wasn’t a big issue. Some bathroom parts looked a little old and could use minor work. Regular breakfast was good but somewhat limited, and the dining area is small. The early breakfast box was very basic, with a pear as the only fresh item. Coffee came from a proper machine, but eggs cost 5€ each, which felt overpriced.

We booked through our travel agent and had no idea what to expect at Fenice, so it turned out to be a lovely surprise. The staff were so helpful and friendly that we never felt like a bother, and we enjoyed getting to know them. The online room photos don’t do the place justice. Our room was cute, very clean, and well maintained. The included breakfast was wonderful. The hotel sits in a small square, so it’s quiet at night while still being right among the sights and within easy walking distance of lots to see and do. I’d definitely stay here again.

Our room, number 354, was on the small side, but we loved having a terrace. It was a quiet spot for fresh air and sunshine, high above a canal where we could see and hear gondola rides, sometimes with music and singing. The hotel is in a peaceful location, not far from St Marks Square or Accademia Bridge. The friendly breakfast each morning was simple, and the coffee was excellent. The staff were wonderful and very helpful, especially Niccolo, whom we saw every day. We’ve just finished our stay and highly recommend the hotel.
